Resources for Our Missional Context

Christ Our Redeemer Seminary was born out of the Auburn/Opelika community and our desire is to serve the needs of our community. In addition to our seminary programs, we believe we can serve the broader community by creating, curating, and recommending resources that demonstrate how the gospel of Jesus Christ addresses the questions, needs, challenges, and opportunities we face. We hope that you find something helpful for you here.

Who is Jesus?

"Who is Jesus? What did he teach? What is the meaning of his death? Did he resurrect from the dead and why would that even matter? Is it still plausible to believe that he will return one day? What is the relationship of Jesus to the rest of the Bible?"

If you have questions like these, this page is for you.

What does it mean to follow Jesus?

"What does is it mean to follow Jesus? What practices best contribute to a growing relationship with him? How can he free me from self-destructive patterns? What does discipleship to Jesus look like in ordinary life? What are the costs of being his disciple in our specific context?"

What is the Church?

"Why are there so many churches here in our community? What are the differences between them? Is being part of local church important? If so, how can I choose one out of all these options? Aren't we all part of one Church? What IS the Church anyway? What is its purpose and role in the Biblical story?"

How can we serve our community?

"How are we to understand our context here in Auburn and Opelika? How can we make sense of the changes taking place demographically and culturally? What are the cultural idolatries that we must confront with the gospel? Where is there injustice? Where is there beauty? What are the unique challenges and opportunities before us? What implications do these have for the Church here? In light of these, how can we best serve our community?"

How can we serve as Christlike leaders for the Church?

"How do address the need for sound biblical teaching, thorough discipleship, formative worship, authentic community, fruitful evangelism, counter-cultural living, commitment to justice, mercy, and the Great Commission, leadership development and more? How do we address those needs amid the intractable challenges of biblical illiteracy, loneliness and isolation, division and polarization, expressive individualism, consumer Christianity, aversion to commitment, the plague of pornography, leadership failures, gender confusion, marriage failures, mental/emotional health, secret abortions, racism, misogyny, nationalism, anti- and hyper-intellectualism, the de-churching of our young people, and the rapid secularization of culture?"

How can we train Christian leaders?

"How can we re-situate leadership development within the local church? How can we train leaders to be able to equip their congregations for the work of ministry in their varied callings? How can we best address issues of character development and spiritual formation? What principles and practices best promote adult learning? How can we train leaders to think and live like missionaries who can exegete both God's Word and God's world?"

How can we participate more integrally in God's global mission?

"What is the state of the Church worldwide today? Who and where are the unreached? What are the most important trends, challenges, and opportunities? With the Church's center of gravity shifting to the East and South, what role does the Church in the West have in global missions? What is our best contribution now and how can we partner well with the global Church? What does it look like for the local church to be involved in God's global mission?"
